Headed up `Aiea Heights to the Keaiwa Heiau State Recreation Area to take a stroll on the Aiea Loop trail. I broke my last pair of contacts on Friday and did not want to risk hiking some ridge trail with my glasses. I can see with them, but they get smudges and sweat on them and it makes it...more difficult to judge depth perception and makes my field of vision blurry. Not something I want while hiking.
The trail was really muddy. This made for slow going as every step was slippery.
This trail has become a well know friend the last year. A great "stroll" in the hills above `Aiea, a break from walking among the concrete canyons of Honolulu.
An older minor landslide that happened in late 2010. |
The beginning of the Ridge trail is very nice. But it quickly gets nasty a few more minutes up the ridge. Kai and I journey up `Aiea Ridge trail in January, that was plenty enough for me.
There are some great views of Halawa Valley and Kalauao Valley from the ridge trail.
I could barely see a group on the ridge trail very far ahead. You can't really see them in this picture, at this size.
But zoomed in, you can make out a group on the trail.
Some parts of the trail were nice and dry.
But mostly it was like this.
It took a couple of hours, but it was a good workout up in the hills.
Some flowers on the trail (for Sommer).
